What do Preston businesses need from a website?
Preston customers want to know three things fast: are you open, what do you sell or offer, and how do they get to you. A Preston website should load quickly on a phone, keep hours and menus or ranges current, explain parking and public transport, and suit a customer base that speaks many languages at home.
Darebin City Council describes Preston Central as a bustling multicultural hub. Many of the best local businesses are run by families who have traded here for years and rely on word of mouth. A clear website lets that reputation travel further: it gives new residents a reason to choose you, and it lets regulars check your hours without ringing.
How is Preston changing, and why does it matter online?
Preston is one of the Victorian Government’s first ten pilot activity centres. The Preston (High Street) Activity Centre Plan is now finalised, and Darebin expects around 10,200 more homes in the area over 20 years. More residents means more people searching for local businesses, and change on the street makes an up-to-date website more important.
Several changes are in progress. Darebin endorsed a concept design in November 2025 to transform High Street between Bell Street and Murray Road, with wider footpaths, more trees and outdoor dining, and construction scheduled for 2027/28, subject to funding. A development plan for the privately owned Preston Market precinct beside Preston Station went to public consultation in October 2026 and awaits the Planning Minister’s decision.
When streets, parking or entrances change, the businesses that tell customers clearly online keep their trade. We build sites where a notice about access, temporary hours or a new entrance is a two-minute update, not a redesign.
Which Preston businesses do we design for?
Mostly food and hospitality, independent retail, trades and professional services: market traders, delis and bakeries, High Street cafés and restaurants, the shops and services along Gilbert Road, electricians and plumbers, florists, and accountants or lawyers serving the north.
- Food and market traders: what you stock, when you trade and how to find your stall or shop, with photos that do the produce justice.
- Cafés and restaurants: menus as real text rather than PDFs, bookings and current hours.
- Trades: services, licences, the suburbs you cover and a quick quote form.
- Professional services: a calm, credible site that explains what you do and how to book a first meeting.

See the Brennoway Electrical & Plumbing concept, set in Preston, and the Orlivelle Florals concept from neighbouring Northcote. Both are fictional samples.
Can my website work in more than one language?
Yes. If many of your customers speak another language at home, we can lay out a second-language section or page using text that you or your translator supply. We keep the main navigation simple so both versions are easy to find.
We do not machine-translate your content and publish it as is. A short, accurate section in a second language usually earns more trust than a whole site of uneven translation.
Is there Darebin council support for local businesses?
Darebin City Council’s Economic Development team runs Business Skills Workshops, a monthly Business eNews about events, grants and opportunities, and publishes economic snapshots on local spending. Contact it at business@darebin.vic.gov.au.
In 2026 Darebin also ran a Shopfront Improvement Program for Preston Central and the Reservoir Activity Centre, funded through Business Victoria’s Multicultural Business Precinct Revitalisation Program. It offered up to $5,000 (ex GST) for physical works such as signage, façade painting and lighting, not websites. That round closed on 21 September 2026. Check the council’s grants page for current programs.
